A lot of people know that I have been in Vietnam for more than 15 years, but very few know that I have not tried even one Banh Mi until recently. Every time I passed by a BANH MI stall, I could not work out what this spam-like meat was all about- just looked seriously greasy and revolting to me.

Then I tried my 1st ever Banh Mi a few weeks ago at LE BANH MI and it was so good that I had 3. Located at No. 12 on Le Thanh Ton at the bottom of the Mayfair Apartments, this little cafeteria like stall serves their original version of BANH MI with slow oven- roasted  shoulder of pork (specially seasoned of course with their secret recipe) layered with French Pate between  freshly baked crunchy baguettes. The Pork and the Pate aside, the special garnishes they have- made the whole world of difference to the normal BANH MI. My favorite is THE UMAMI – a Japanese mayonnaise infused with soy and wasabi – which brings a special zest to the meat. THE BALE with peppercorns and Asian herbs has an EAST meets West flavor and THE PHU QUOC with its famed fish sauce, garlic, chili and sugar is simply finger-licking good.

With only 40,000 VND per serving, it has certainly meets its mission of providing a “WHOLESOME, FLAVOURFUL and VALUE” food product to its customer, if not more. As an Asian, I normally prefer a bowl of Wonton Noodle Soup over a club sandwich but the 3 unique sandwiches at LE BANH MI is so mouth- watering great that you can certainly BANH MI more!
